Spurs of the moment

Tottenham Hotspur fans descended on Ocean Terminal last week to catch a glimpse of some of the London-based club's star players. In town for the Barclays Asia Trophy soccer tournament, Spurs players Michael Dawson, Benoit Assou-Ekotto, Brad Friedel and Andros Townsend, and club ambassador and former captain Ledley King took time out to attend the Hong Kong launch of sports apparel brand Under Armour.

Some fans were deeply disappointed, however, when the question-and-answer session was limited to the topic of Under Armour. While it is appreciated that the American brand paid for the event, surely a few sport-related questions wasn't too much to ask.

As part of the launch, four fans underwent a series of endurance tests, with Angel Ng Siu-yan coming out on top to win a Spurs strip signed by the entire squad.

City skipper steps out for the cause

Manchester City were another English Premier League team in town last week and team captain Vincent Kompany took time out to meet fans and launch Hong Kong Friends of SOS Children's Villages.

Kompany has been a spokesman for the charity for almost 10 years and has visited many of the villages set up to care for neglected children and orphans around the world. Hong Kong Friends - the first such group in the region - was launched at a gala reception at the Renaissance Harbour View hotel, supported by law firm Pinsent Masons, Manchester City Football Club and British Telecom.

Wear your heart on your wrist

Watchmaker Frederique Constant hosted a gala dinner at the Aberdeen Marina Club to support the fight against cardiovascular disease ahead of World Heart Day on September 29. It was attended by the brand's ambassador for China, Shu Qi, who wore a pink Agape dress with matching Rupert Sanderson stilettos.

A watch called the Pavée Amour, specially designed by the Taiwanese actress, was auctioned off, adding to the HK$300,000 raised at the event. The funds were donated to the Hong Kong College of Cardiology. Aletta Stas, co-founder of the watch label, presented a giant cheque to the college's officials.
