This autumn many designers have taken a walk on the bright side with vibrant shades that offer a welcome alternative to the season's sombre palette. Candy red was the top choice at brands such as Dior (pictured), Lanvin and Valentino, where it was used on dresses to create a sexy, sophisticated look. Colourblocking was taken to new heights as lively panels were incorporated into classic styles such as pencil skirts - as seen at Balenciaga - to create a modern twist. The champion piece, however, is the bright cover-up. Choose oversized mannish coats as seen at Céline and Stella McCartney (in blue) or Comme des Garçons (red). You can make the look more winter appropriate by choosing materials such as suede, leather or faux fur.

Colourful sweaters such as this round-neck style called Boise (HK$1,500) from American Vintage work well layered under jackets and coats.

Spice up your jewellery with bright stones. We like Shourouk's neon pendant (HK$3,990) and matching earrings (HK$5,500) made from crystal and resin from Harvey Nichols.

Proenza Schouler's pouches (HK$8,200 from Lane Crawford) are great for storing everyday essentials.

Stack colourful bracelets, like Loewe's Amazona leather ones (HK$4,000 each) on your wrists for a fun look,

To really brighten up your outfit, go for a pair of show-stopping shoes such as Charlotte Olympia's Priscilla pumps (HK$7,100 from On Pedder) in candy stripes.
