This autumn many designers have taken a walk on the bright side with vibrant shades that offer a welcome alternative to the season's sombre palette. Colourblocking was taken to new heights as lively panels were incorporated into classic styles such as pencil skirts - as seen at Balenciaga - to create a modern twist. The champion piece, however, is the bright cover-up. Choose oversized mannish coats as seen at Céline and Stella McCartney (in blue) or Comme des Garçons (red). You can make the look more winter appropriate by choosing materials such as suede, leather or faux fur.
