Company founded by two families in Paris 55 years ago launching in Horizon Plaza, Ap Lei Chau

Luxury furniture brand Roche Bobois is opening its first showroom in Hong Kong in September.

The French company, which will set up shop in Horizon Plaza, Ap Lei Chau, works closely with designers such as Ora Ito, Cédric Ragot, Sacha Lakic, Christophe Delcourt and Stephen Burks. It has also collaborated with fashion houses such as Jean Paul Gaultier, Sonia Rykiel Maison and Missoni Home.

Roche Bobois offers a range of made-to-order designs, and has more than 250 showrooms in over 50 countries, including the United States, Britain, Spain, Luxemburg, and Dubai. In 2004 it opened its 100th overseas showroom, in China.

Founded in 1960 in Paris, Roche Bobois has positioned itself as a world leader in design.

The company was born from a meeting of two families: the Roches, a Catholic family from France which had been running a furniture business since the 1800s – and the Chouchans, emigrants from Russia to Paris, who in 1950 opened a furniture showroom called Au Beau Bois, from which the Bobois in the company name derives.

Together they set out to offer customers innovative designs relevant to the times. By 1961, they had designed their first collection together, with the first Roche Bobois showroom, designed by French architect Pierre Paulin, opening on Paris' Boulevard Saint-Germain.
