Heart-shaped diamond sells for record US$15m at auction by Christie’s in Switzerland
The largest of its kind, and the centrepiece of a necklace of cultured pearls, stone sets a world record price for heart-shaped diamonds at sale in Geneva
The largest flawless heart-shaped diamond has sold for almost US$15 million in Geneva, breaking a world record in its category but missing its pre-sale estimate, auction house Christie’s said.
The 92-carat diamond forms the centrepiece of a necklace of cultured pearls.
The sale price of around US$14.99 million is a world record for heart-shaped diamonds, Christie’s spokeswoman Alexandra Kindermann said.
The previous record for a heart-shaped diamond was set in 2011 when a 56.15-carat rock sold for US$10.9 million.
