The French part of couture week kicked off with a star packed symposium on 'the Globalisation of Haute Couture' with panelists like Suzy Menkes of the International Herald Tribune and Didier Grumbach, President of the Haute Couture Syndicale in Paris.

A lively and very interesting debate about the new place of the very traditional art of couture sparked off between designers and industry insiders.

In the evening, shows started off with a much anticipated presentation by young French-Chinese designer Yiqing Yin. For most, it was the first time they had seen Yin's creations in motion but it would be safe to say that she won more than a few fans that night.

Next up was the lovely Maurizio Galante - an Italian who specialises in furniture and other design fields as well as fashion. Look no further for light, wonderfully sculptural pieces with a heavy architectural bent.
