Get your rulers out - you'll need to brush up on geometry this season.
While stripes are a perennial springtime favourite, designers have added bold shapes to the mix, from checks and triangles to zigzags. Leading the trend is Louis Vuitton, with its trademark chequerboard chic.
For the spring-summer 2013 show, Louis Vuitton designer Marc Jacobs sent out twins in matching maxi- and minidresses covered in checks. Detailing gave each pattern a high-fashion touch, with micro sequins, cut-outs and sheer fabrics.
At Chanel, Karl Lagerfeld used plenty of colour for a sporty look, while layering shapes to create a cool 3-D effect. For a more formal look, take your cue from Haider Ackermann's collection which features sheer, flowy fabrics splashed with diamonds and other eye-catching shapes.
