Metallics have had a bad rap in fashion, particularly in the 1980s when they were associated with garish prom dresses. Fast forward to 2013, and they have gone from cheap to chic at the hands of designers such as Raf Simons at Dior whose use of iridescent fabrics (pictured)highlighted his minimalist dresses this season. Scottish designer Jonathan Saunders, meanwhile, created sci-fi metallic skirts and bomber jackets that had a futuristic yet sporty vibe. While gold and silver are now considered neutrals in any woman's wardrobe, summer's metallics are all about colour. At Burberry Prorsum, Christopher Bailey sent out his models in modern metallic trenches in candy and pastel shades for a hi-shine look. For accessories it's all about mirrored leather and holographic effects, as seen at Stella McCartney. Shine on.
