Mushrooms, 'golden oldies' night and wine dinners galore at Hong Kong restaurants

Wines from Australia, Champagne, and Italy feature in special dinners at Issaya Siamese Club, the Ritz Carlton, Town and Spoon

Cucina  restaurant at the Marco Polo Hongkong Hotel  in Tsim Sha Tsui  is featuring porcini mushrooms until October 18. The seasonal mushrooms are served in dishes of handmade fettuccine with fresh Tuscan sausage and porcini mushroom sauce; beef carpaccio with rocket salad, raw porcini mushrooms and parmesan; and porcini mushroom risotto with green asparagus and testun al Barolo cheese.  Bookings: 2113 0808

Hoi Yat Heen  restaurant at the Harbour Plaza  in North Point  is having a “golden oldies” dinner on October 26. At the event, the Chinese set dinner will be served to the accompaniment of Chinese and English language music from the 1950s to 1980s. The dinner is HK$398 plus 10 per cent and includes braised fish maw with crab meat and crab roe; double-boiled abalone soup with snow lotus herb; stir-fried scallops with matsutake  mushrooms; and sauteed sole fillet in a crispy bone boat. On October 14, Issaya Siamese Club  in Causeway Bay  will have a dinner featuring Alkoomi Wines  from Australia. The dinner is HK$800 inclusive, and includes Issaya-spiced grilled Australian chicken with the Alkoomi Frankland River Cabernet Sauvignon 2012;  and lamb shank with Mussamun curry and Asian multi-grains with Chiang Mai mushrooms  and garlic with mushroom-scented oil, paired with the Alkoomi Jarrah Shiraz 2009.  Bookings: 2154 3048  

Michel Janneau  of Champagne Louis Roederer  will host a dinner on October 29 at the Ritz Carlton in Tsim Sha Tsui. The dinner includes steamed Sabah giant grouper in supreme soy sauce and deep-fried crispy chicken with garlic, paired with the newly launched Louis Roederer Cristal 2007.  The dinner is HK$2,280 plus 10 per cent (HK$1,980 if payment is made before October 16). Town  restaurant in Causeway Bay  will have a Hawaiian-style white truffle dinner paired with Castello Banfi  wines on October 22. The five-course dinner, which costs HK$988 plus 10 per cent, includes wild duck Kalua crepe with chestnuts, savoy cabbage and comte paired with the Castello Banfi Brunello di Montalcino DOCG;  and speck-wrapped strip loin, wagyu tongue teriyaki and miso sweet potato puree with the Poggio alle Mura Brunello di Montalcino DOCG.  Bookings: 2568 8708

On October 30, Spoon by Alain Ducasse  at the InterContinental  in Tsim Sha Tsui  will have a dinner featuring the Vietti Winery  from Piedmont  in Italy. The dinner includes warm young rabbit and cabbage pie paired with the Vietti Barolo Castiglione 2010;  and wild turbot with cep mushrooms and artichokes with the winery’s Barbaresco Masseria 2010.  The dinner is HK$2,288 inclusive.
