Let’s talk turkey: eight places to go for a Hong Kong Thanksgiving feast

Celebrate the American way with turkey feasts and some twists on tradition - fried turkey, torchetta, or a side of pancakes, anyone?

On November 26, Americans get together to celebrate Thanksgiving – a day of feasting, football and family for which feathered friends are scarified in the name of tradition. While Hongkongers have not embraced the tradition as enthusiastically as other Western festivals such as Halloween, Hong Kong restaurants have created some tasty menus for the occasion.

Restoration's fried turkey.
For a great taste of the south, head to Restoration for its Creole-inspired Thanksgiving lunch and dinner menus, served from November 25-29. It kicks off with pumpkin soup, followed by fried turkey with extras including jalapeno cornbread stuffing, peas with bacon and mashed potatoes. If you have any room left, finish off with some apple or pumpkin pie.

The hippest new place in town, MyHouse, has a tasty menu with an appetising price tag (HK$398). Gobble down torchetta (that’s a turkey breast prepared like a traditional Italian porchetta), candied sweet potato casserole, battered mashed potato, and green beans with garlicky almond breadcrumbs, capped off with pumpkin pie cheesecake. If the festive fare is as tasty as its regular menu items, then book now.

It’s also the perfect place to celebrate Thanksgiving from November 26 to 29, with à la carte options including purple sweet potato soup with chestnuts and scallops, roasted US turkey and honey-glazed ham. For dessert tuck into the pumpkin pie.

Next is a five-shade salad – a fruit and vegetable combo of papaya, dragon fruit, melon, scallion, red pepper, cashew nuts and a sweet peanut sauce. Served until December 30, the free-range turkey (HK$1,880) needs to be ordered 72 hours in advance.
