Newly opened Flying Pig Bistro, Sai Ying Pun - meat and more
With a name like this, there are numerous pork dishes on the menu, from sliders to pork knuckle and roast suckling pig, but also lighter options such as a quinoa salad. The desserts are rich
High Street in Sai Ying Pun is beginning to look like SoHo, thanks to the mini escalator on Western Street that’s making the area more accessible to pedestrians.
One of the newest restaurants is Flying Pig Bistro by French Creations – the same group behind Metropolitain, Pastis, Alchemy and Comptoir.
The porcine theme isn’t over the top – there’s a mural, and wire sheet lamps that sort of look like flying pigs.
We started with Asian tuna tartare (HK$135), which was served on a bed of spinach leaves and topped with avocado slices and cherry tomatoes. It was a reasonable size to share, but not particularly memorable.
A generous serving of quinoa salad (HK$128) was delicious and heathy, with diced tomatoes, red onions, bell peppers and spinach leaves, and a lime and honey dressing.
One of the signature dishes – roast suckling pig (HK$255) came with overcooked, thick, hand-cut fries and a small salad. We loved the meat, which was tender and had crispy skin.
We shared a dessert of warm chocolate pudding (HK$78) – a chocolate fondant with a hint of caramel, served with vanilla ice cream and strawberries. Bliss.
