Half of the one-metre-long pizza at Sidewalk Café.

Restaurant review: Sidewalk cafe in Tin Shui Wai – get your pizza by the metre

Bring a lot of friends to make the most of this trendy and cheap pizza parlour where you can also enjoy suckling pig and tasty pasta dishes

Fancy munching on pizzas with a large group of friends in a trendy restaurant at an incredibly cheap price? A new restaurant in Tin Shui Wai offers just that.

Interior of Sidewalk Café.
After 35 years in Telford Plaza in Kowloon Bay, Sidewalk Café opened the Tin Shui Wai branch (there’s also another one in Sheung Shui). Aimed at a trendy youth crowd who enjoy bingeing on pizza, the restaurant has large areas with tables that can accommodate crowds. Their most eye-catching offering is a one-metre-long pizza (HK$268) with three sections: onion and ham, tomato and cheese, and mixed mushroom. Serving up to eight people, the pizza takes up the length of a table.

Sidewalk Café offers eight other varieties, including salmon pizza, American pizza and La Reine pizza, priced from HK$98 to HK$148 for nine to 11 inches. During a promotional period lasting until the end of August, diners who spend HK$300 or more can enjoy all pizza (with the exception of the one-metre-long version) at half price.

Margherita pizza.
We enjoyed the Margherita pizza (HK$98 for nine-inch) with mozzarella, fresh tomato sauce, minced garlic and fresh herbs, which was appetising and light.
Several new dishes are offered only at the Tin Shui Wai branch.
Sicily Seafood pasta.
The Sicily seafood pasta (HK$98) with shrimp, mussels, clams and tomatoes had spicy, sour flavours that made it a good dish for the summer.
Pork-stuffed ravioli.
The pork-stuffed ravioli (HK$78 for six pieces) served in truffle cream sauce was savoury and filling.
Portuguese-style roasted suckling pig.
We also liked the Portuguese-style roasted suckling pig (HK$139) served with black vinegar sauce. The three-month-old pig was tender, with succulent flesh and crunchy skin.
