Restaurant review: Floom Floom in TST – tranquil cafe serves great-value Japanese
There’s a focus on healthy fare at Floom Floom, with ingredients such as tofu, beetroot and avocado, and unlike many of Tsim Sha Tsui’s cheaper restaurants, no pressure to vacate your table for waiting guests
With wooden tables and tatami seating on a wooden platform, new upstairs cafe Floom Floom in Tsim Sha Tsui exudes tranquillity and relaxation.
The cafe is opened by a local designer who studied in Japan, where he spent a lot time relaxing in such establishments.
With a focus on health, the dishes incorporate ingredients such as tofu, avocado and beetroot. The menu is changed every month to make use of seasonal ingredients.
We ordered the yuzu pepper grilled chicken and shrimp salad (HK$88). The chicken and shrimp were fresh and went well with the sesame sauce.
The avocado, crab and scallop sashimi onsen rice (HK$108) was a delight, with fresh seafood and the rice mixed with a semi-liquid onsen egg. The dish came with a plentiful amount of salad greens.
The smoked salmon with avocado salad (HK$98) had good-quality ingredients, while in the shrimp and smoked salmon with pesto pasta (HK$88), the house-made pesto sauce was appetising and not too oily.
The tea offerings can be refilled for free. Instead of topping up the water inside the kettle, which dilutes the tea, refills are freshly made. We liked the Okinawa black sugar and red date tea (HK$58) which was invigorating.
Desserts come in small portions, and seem overpriced. Fuji apple and chestnut parfait with green tea syrup (HK$68) had a great taste, but we finished it in just a few bites.
Unlike many of the less expensive restaurants in Tsim Sha Tsui that set a limit on the time diners are allowed to stay, at Floom Floom you can stay the entire evening relaxing over tea.
