1/F, 17 Lan Kwai Fong, Central Tel: 9720 0053
The vibe: Lan Kwai Fong's newest club is poised for success. It takes the LKF bar aesthetic and upgrades it with a long bar, fun LED light displays, great sound and a large dance floor. The crowd is the area's usual mix of pretty, young people but the atmosphere is fun, without too much snootiness. The staff were gracious and professional until a misunderstanding over the bill was handled poorly and led to an ugly scene.
The drinks: the bartender is competent and quick, but the emphasis is definitely on sheer alcoholic strength over taste and innovation. Our favourite cocktail of the evening was the Sweetest Thing (HK$170), a tasty concoction of Veuve Clicquot, peach schnapps, gin and orange juice. It hit all the right notes with its balance of sweet and tart and the combination of gin and champagne packed a kick that had us dancing in our seats. The Kiss of a Dragon (HK$90), a cocktail of Belvedere vodka, Cointreau, cranberry, grapefruit, mango and lime cordial, had its fans, and Better Than Sex (HK$90) - with its mixture of cachaca, Chambord, cranberry, fresh lime, mint, and sugar - was another crowd-pleaser. Our universal least favourite was the Jaded Lady (HK$90), a mix of Bacardi, Midori, raspberry, blue curacao and pineapple juice, which was hard to stomach.
The verdict: a fine addition to the area, which could become a home away from home for those looking for a rowdy good time and night owls who love to dance.
