Five natural mosquito repellents on sale in Hong Kong

Here is a selection of natural mosquito repellents that contain no Deet and claim to be kind to the skin

Completely organic and natural, this lab-tested product uses pure essential oils of citronella, cedar, lemon grass, rosemary, geranium and peppermint to keep bugs, mosquitoes and insects away. The sturdy, lightweight aluminium bottle is easily recyclable.

MosRepel Anti Mosquito Bracelet

(HK$21 per band, select supermarkets and pharmacies)

This Taiwan-manufactured Hong Kong product encapsulates active ingredients - citronella and geraniol - into the plastic band through "eco-moulding" technology. When the band is exposed to air, the repellent will be released immediately, though slow and steadily, in a form of vapour. Efficacy tests done by the Taiwan National University of Science & Technology showed the bracelet to have repelling efficiency of up to 180 hours.

Para'kito Refillable Band

Another Hong Kong-based brand, this band uses refillable pellets made in France impregnated with a blend of citronella, rosemary, geranium, mint, clove and peppermint essential oils. It boasts non-toxic waterproof protection that lasts for 15 straight days. It recently launched a new children's collection to fit pint-sized wrists. The band even has an identification label to help quickly locate lost adventurous tykes.

Repel Lemon Eucalyptus

(HK$165 for 118ml bottle, apa.co/eshop)

The oil of lemon eucalyptus makes up a whopping 30 per cent of this product and is said to repel mosquitoes for up to six hours.

Formulated with geraniol and cedarwood oil, this claims to repel mosquitoes, midges and other biting insects such as flies, head lice, ants, bedbugs and gnats.
