THE Gold Coast Hotel is designed to create a feeling of the indoors and outdoors merged into one.
Interior designers Leese Robertson Freeman have set the mood for resort-style elegance with large palm trees and greenery, Italian marble tiled floors and commissioned murals and sculptures.
The result is grandeur in a relaxed setting.
On entering the hotel lobby there is a feeling of serenity, which is enhanced by the apricot hues of the interior.
Behind counters, staff wear resort uniforms of apricot floral shirts and skirts to put guests in a holiday mood.
The marble floors are complemented with decorative columns and the timber-panelled ceiling is enhanced by art deco up-lights.
Harmony between the beautifully landscaped gardens and the indoor areas is created by the extensive use of natural materials.
The three-storey atrium enhances this sensitivity to the environment.
All guest rooms feature a rich decor and pastel hues with sycamore and beech panelling and marble bathrooms.
The piece de resistance is the balcony, which commands views of the sea.
Standard features in the rooms include 24-hour room service, mini-bar, refrigerator, television, in-room safe and in-house movies.
For an individual touch, a few private suites will reflect different interior styles from the relaxed Caribbean, modern Oriental and art deco, to the traditional feel of an English manor.
The business centre has the latest in hi-tech equipment.
It is only the third hotel in Hong Kong to offer full video-conferencing facilities - the way of seminars in the future.
Food and beverage manager Paul Lee said the high-density project and screen situated in the ballroom afforded cinema-quality vision for speakers wanting to show their own tapes and videos.
''We can also organise hook-ups for multi-language translation,'' he said.
In the Gold Club lounge, on the executive floors, business people can make use of a full secretarial service.
Equipment includes fax machines and notebook computers.
If necessary, the executive could finish off his important speech or business report by the pool.
''We also have a printing service, for those who want special business cards made up,'' Mr Lee said.
''We can arrange last-minute cards or stationery.'' There are seven function rooms, which can be sub-divided and the ballroom can cater for events of up to 1,200 people at cocktails.
