Cara Grogan is a model and co-owner of The Genie Concept juice bar

"My dad is from Switzerland so drinking wine is a big family thing. Food and wine mean celebration to us. I am also Australian so I'm a pretty good wine drinker, but I don't drink that much any more as I am quite healthy these days.

I have been detoxing for years and during my travels I experienced the juice bars in London, which is where I got the idea for Genie Concept (Universal Building, 5-13 New Street, Sheung Wan, tel: 2803 0369). It's very difficult to do this in Hong Kong because everyone lives a fast lifestyle. After thinking about it for a year, I decided to open it in April 2012.

I am a vegetarian but not a vegan; I still eat eggs and cheese. One of my favourites is Mana! Fast Slow Food (92 Wellington Street, Central, tel: 2851 1611) which has great, healthy options. I love their soups. The salads are great, and so are their chocolate truffles and pumpkin pie.

I love to go to Lamma Island and spend a day with my dog at the beach. I love to visit the dog-friendly Bookworm Cafe (79 Main Street, Yung Shue Wan, Lamma Island, tel: 2982 4838). They have a really tasty vegetarian shepherd's pie.

Grassroots Pantry (12 Fuk Sau Lane, Sai Yin Pun, tel: 2873 3353) is my recent vegetarian discovery. I love to eat at places with great ambience and this particular cafe also welcomes pets, so I can take my dog along.

For Chinese food, I like Loving Hut in Wan Chai (2/F Luen Tai Building, 93-99 Wanchai Road, tel: 2574 3248) for fast-food vegetarian. Not only is the food great, but you can eat healthily at a very cheap price.

I also like Tung Po (2/F Java Road Municipal Services Building, 99 Java Road, North Point, tel: 2880 5224). I like to take overseas friends to eat dai pai dong-style food there. It has great atmosphere and I love to drink beer from a Chinese rice bowl.

Brickhouse (20A D'Aguilar Street, Central, tel: 2810 0560) has a great atmosphere and food. Before eating there, I hated Mexican food … but chef Austin Fry made me fall in love with it. I love the queso fundito and Mexican street-style corn.

I like the MSG-free Vietnamese place Noodle Mi (2 Bonham Strand, Sheung Wan, tel: 2253 1113). I love its wrap mi - crispy vegetarian spring rolls - and the salads.

I don't really go to high-end places that often. My ideal place for a romantic dinner with my husband, who is also a vegetarian, is the rooftop of our home. Most of the time I cook the dishes, and with a good bottle of wine it is fantastic for us already."
