Kevyn Aucoin The Celestial Skin Liquid Lighting - Candlelight

Kevyn Aucoin The Celestial Skin Liquid Lighting - Candlelight (HK$450/30ml)

Claim: this gel/creamy fluid hybrid can be used as a highlighter, a primer providing glow or blended with foundation to produce a subtle shimmer. It adds radiance to the face without looking greasy, is long-lasting, and said to contain anti-ageing properties.

Shu uemura stage performer glow creator

Shu uemura stage performer glow creator (HK$360/30ml)

Claim: antioxidant, long-lasting moisturising cream that can be applied as a glow-boosting primer and a highlighter over foundation. Promising more luminous and smooth skin, this product comes in two shades: a silvery "pure glow" and a golden "warm glow".

Guerlain Meteorites Baby Glow

Guerlain Meteorites Baby Glow (HK$425/30ml)

Claim: this sheer, scented brightening foundation creates a youthful-looking complexion, evening out skin tone and minimising signs of fatigue, while offering SPF 25 sun protection. Using Guerlain's "rainbow" pearl pigments in red, blue, green and gold shades to blend into the skin, it creates the appearance of a more radiant and rested face. It comes in three shades.

Verdict: while Aucoin's gel provides a warm glow that will complete a night-time look, some might find it lacks the subtlety needed during the day. Shu Uemura's pure glow had a lighter texture, though its shimmer is rather glittery, leaving traces on the hands and neck even after a shower. Guerlain's baby glow is by far the best product here, providing thorough coverage and a subtle radiance that softens the skin and stays on despite Hong Kong's heat and humidity.
