Hong Kong meal deals on steak, cooling summer fare and Nespresso

Winter melon, mushrooms and eel are among the cooling items on offer

Dong Lai Shun at the Royal Garden hotel in Tsim Sha Tsui is serving cooling summer dishes until the end of July. The menu includes fried frog legs with Tonkin jasmine; winter melon cups with matsutake mushrooms in carrot soup; sautéed grouper fillet with honey beans and termite mushrooms; sautéed chicken with matsutake mushrooms and minced chicken dumplings; and steamed winter melon with crab claw (above). Also trying to beat the summer heat is Sagano restaurant at the New World Millennium in Tsim Sha Tsui East. The Japanese believe that eating eel on the hottest days of the year — which, in 2015, are predicted be July 24 and August 5 — will provide stamina and nutrition. On those days, Sagano will serve dishes of deluxe Japanese eel on rice; barbecued Japanese eel (right); barbecued Japanese eel in vinegar; and pan-fried egg rolls with Japanese eel. Morton's of Chicago - The Steakhouse at the Sheraton hotel in Tsim Sha Tsui will have a wine dinner on July 26. The four-course meal is HK$1,088 plus 10 per cent and includes a meaty main course of prime New York strip, Cajun rib-eye steak and lamb chop, paired with Cesari Amarone della Valpolicella DOCG Classico 2010, and Silver Oak Alexander Valley Cabernet Sauvignon 2010. Nespresso and the Island Shangri-La in Admiralty are collaborating in a special offer at the hotel in July. Lobster Bar and Grill is serving Nespresso cocktails, and on weekends offers a Nespresso brunch for HK$688 plus 10 per cent for three courses or HK$788 for four. Dishes include champagne risotto with lobster, clams, rucola and Espresso Forte sauce; grilled US prime sirloin à la Espresso Origin Brazil; and slow-poached egg with English muffin, black truffle and Lungo Forte bacon. The Lobby Lounge, Island Gourmet and Lobster Bar are serving Nespresso afternoon tea set for HK$315 plus 10 per cent for one person, and HK$538 for two.
