Beef & Liberty in Wan Chai good for snacks, not just burgers
For a smaller bite, try a starter or look to the daily specials board
You might know Beef & Liberty as a burger joint, but they offer plenty of smaller bites, too. Justin Kennedy, co-founder of the eatery, says it means diners can drop in any time. "We're in a really interesting neighbourhood and people are always around, in need of food or a coffee stop. Everyone's welcome."
Aside from the appetisers listed on the menu, Kennedy says that those looking for a snack can also check out the specials board, where they might see items such as scotch eggs. "We import our sausage from Wicks Manor, Essex. We mould it around the quail eggs. They're then breaded and fried. There's something mesmerising about cutting in and watching the rich yolk ooze out."
In keeping with the British theme and the prevailing weather, he suggests pairing the scotch eggs with their Summer Cup, which he says is a version of classic English beverage Pimm's and lemonade, incorporating fresh fruit, lemonade and gin maker Sipsmith's Summer Cup — gin infused with aromatics such as Earl Grey tea and lemon verbena.
Craft beer from local brewery Young Master Ales is available on tap, and goes well with their chilli cheese fries. Like their burgers, the chilli is made with Tasmanian grass-fed beef.
