I know a place

Andrew Sun

"I travel a lot and attend many social and business gatherings so luckily I enjoy all kinds of cuisine. But I love homestyle Italian food, preferably in a place with high ceilings and nice modern lounge music. That is my kind of atmosphere.

For a fancy night out, I like to go to (2/F Alexandra House, 5-17 Des Voeux Road Central, tel: 2537 8859) or (102/F, The Ritz-Carlton Hong Kong, International Commerce Centre, 1 Austin Road West, Tsim Sha Tsui, tel: 2263 2270). All the pasta dishes at Tosca are good, but the white truffle pasta at Otto is the best.

There are a few other places I frequent, too. I love the fish and chips and the bangers and mash at at the Alfred Dunhill Boutique (M/F Prince's Building, Central, tel: 2530 4422). The roast barbecue pork, Peking duck and dim sum are all very good at the (13/F and 14/F, Old Bank of China Building, Bank Street, Central, tel: 2521 8888).

I cannot resist the sweet and sour pork and almond pancakes served by the (188 Wong Chuk Hang Road, Deep Water Bay, tel: 2870 6333).

The place I frequent most is the (The Landmark Mandarin Oriental Hotel, 15 Queen's Road Central, tel: 2132 0077), which I call "my office". The mini hamburgers and, for sure, the lychee martini are my favourites.

I am the type of person who likes going back to restaurants or bars where I am so cosy with the staff that they know exactly what I like to eat and drink.

When I dine out, I like to eat at a leisurely pace, and I like long dinners with friends. I'm not the eat-and-run type. Good music is also important to me.

Other establishments I really like include the (Grand Hyatt Hong Kong, 1 Harbour Road, Wan Chai, tel: 2584 7722). It is the perfect place for casual dining. I think they do the best Hainan chicken rice in town. I remember they won a best Hainan chicken rice award from the Slow Food Movement in Hong Kong a few years ago.

I was at that gathering. The Grand Café was up against an offering from a Thai-style restaurant in Kowloon City and a home-cooked dish by a Malaysian lady. I voted for the Grand Hyatt, of course.

If I have to get a quick bite in a hurry, the at IFC Mall (1/F, IFC Mall, Central, tel: 2383 1133) is my pick. The black ink pasta and the chicken wings are my go-to dishes."
