Beauty low-down: BB creams
Clarins – UV Plus Perfecting Cream HP BB Cream SPF 40 PA++++ (HK$360/30ml)
Claim: its 100 per cent mineral screen supposedly works to make it Asia’s first BB cream to provide such a high level of UVA protection. Plant extracts and bio-tech ingredients, such as cantaloupe melon extract, ensure protection from antioxidants, while blackcurrant bud extract minimises redness.
Kiehl's – Actively Correcting & Beautifying BB Cream SPF50 PA+++ (HK$305/30ml)
Claim: available in three shades, it is formulated with natural mineral pigments to unify skin tone. A high level of clarifying vitamin C corrects skin imperfections, such as fine lines and enlarged pores, while glycerin provides all-day hydration.
MAQuillAGE – Perfect Multi Base BB SPF 30 PA++ (HK$300/30ml)
Claim: an all-in-one beauty essence, sunscreen and concealer. It contains oil control ingredients to improve problems, such as greasy skin and large pores, as well as hyaluronic acid which hydrates and nourishes the skin.
Verdict: Clarins' BB cream is long-lasting, and provides the best coverage, concealing blemishes and imperfections better than the other two. However, the product is also the thickest, and can make the skin appear unnatural. Not many BB creams offer different shades to choose from, so Kiehl's earns points for making it easier to match the colour of your skin. Both Kiehl's and MAQuillAGE's products are lightweight and glide on the skin easily, providing a translucent and nude finish. The latter is more appealing as it not only evens skin tone but also primes and brightens the skin with a healthy, pink glow.
