Beach bombshell … go retro this summer

Big '60s hair and a sweep of black eyeliner sets off this season's hottest swimwear. Designers have glamorous holidays in mind, with eye-catching totes, colour blocks and big, exotic jewellery. Think Brigitte Bardot in her heyday …

Nautical stripes can look both vintage and modern, while highwaisted swimming shorts deliver effortless retro chic. Orange bikini top (HK$68) by 6xity 8ight; cardigan (US$110), bikini bottom (US$80/set), and yellow leather tote bag (US$248) all by Michael Kors.

The flattering one-piece is making a glorious comeback. Throw on a lightweight circle skirt for a '50s-style outfit that takes you from the beach to the cocktail bar. Red cut-out one-piece by Jets (HK$2,195); white leather bracelets (from left: US$125, US$90, US$95) and pink leather bracelets (from left: US$95, US$115, US$95, US$125) all by Michael Kors.

Colour blocking has been a major runway trend for several seasons, and swimwear has caught up. Stripy one-piece (HK$4,400), necklace (HK$16,600) and multi-coloured bangle (HK$3,300) all by Hermès; vinyl hat (HK$13,200) by Chanel; Holly Sunglasses (HK$5,050) by Louis Vuitton.

Be brave and bold with colours this summer, and don't be shy with accessories either - go for bright and oversized. Marimekko jumpsuit (HK$2,595); tribal earrings by Dolce and Gabbana (inquiries: 2877 5558).
