Kiehl's Patchouli & Fresh Rose Hand and Body Lotion (HK$240/250ml)
Claim: from its Aromatic Blends range, this preparation uses patchouli from Brazil and rose from France. Squalane, an olive-derived moisturising oil, and shea butter are added to moisturise and restore skin elasticity. A botanical oil blend of avocado, olive fruit, sweet almond, apricot kernel and sesame seed further conditions and hydrates. Rating: 3/5

Ila's Body Cream for Vital Energy (HK$980/200 grams)
Claim: rich in fatty acids and plant sterols, this cream works to stimulate, balance and revive the skin thanks to ingredients such as nourishing patchouli and lavender, as well as detoxifying juniper and geranium. Argan oil, shea butter and a blend of essential oils give it anti-inflammatory and anti-ageing properties, while lemon grass is infused to lift the senses. Rating: 3.5/5

Shiseido's Future Solution LX Total Regenerating Body Cream (HK$1,200/200ml)
Claim: the brand's hi-tech formula helps give you radiant and resilient skin, and comes with anti-ageing properties. Traditional Eastern ingredients such as houttuynia cordata and angelica root extracts encourage water metabolism and blood circulation to firm and tone skin. Rating: 4/5

Verdict: Kiehl's skin-softening body lotion is a bit thick and sticky for our liking, although we love its pleasant, long-lasting floral scent. A small amount of the Ila body cream, which has a soothing, curd-like consistency, goes a long way. It leaves the skin feeling supple and protected but it isn't absorbed as swiftly as Shiseido's cream - our favourite of the three. The light, pinkish cream from the Japanese brand doesn't suffocate or weigh your skin down. It does, however, leave your body feeling smooth and refreshed.
