Renting luxury brand handbags is already a big business in the West, so it was only a matter of time before the craze hit Hong Kong. LuxTNT.com (it stands for Luxury Tonight) is aimed at fashionistas who want to look the part and update their accessories wardrobe, without spending the big bucks.
The way it works is simple: customers find the bags they want on the website, select how long they want to rent them for and then specify a delivery and return date. For orders placed before 2pm, the bags can be delivered on the same day.
Considering that LuxTNT is essentially a designer goods rental service, I was impressed with their website which looks modern yet elegant. There is a quick introduction video which explains how the service works.
In terms of what's on offer there is a large selection which is updated weekly, specifically 25 designer brands including Alexander McQueen, Céline, Chanel, Dior, Jimmy Choo and Yves Saint Laurent.
The assortment ranges from classic styles such as Proenza Schouler's iconic PS1 satchel to limited edition designs like Chanel's perfume bag that everyone is after. There is also a small vintage section and contemporary brands such as House of Harlow. Customers can search by brand name, category or event, be it Fashion Week or a dinner party, with more specific filters like colour, style and type. Prices listed are per day (there is a minimum rental period of three days and a maximum of a month) and range from a few hundred dollars up to 2,000 for special pieces.
The checkout process was smooth, and my bags arrived on the same day. Everything was packaged in a discreet yet elegant black box, with matching dust bags and a cut handbag hook which I could keep.
I ordered a range of styles, from the PS1 satchel in beige (to see what condition it would come in), to the popular Valentino Rockstud clutch, and a fancy plastic and leather clutch by Chanel. Three of the four pieces were in excellent condition and practically brand new. There were quite a few dirt marks on the light coloured items but nothing too severe.
According to the LuxTNT, team all the bags go through a specialist cleaning and inspection before they are sent out to ensure quality control. They also offer a money-back guarantee to customers who are not satisfied with the condition the bags arrive in. If any of the bags are damaged beyond normal wear, customers will be charged.
With such efficient service, and some celebrity fans, could this be the way we all shop for bags in the future?
