I'm not really a foodie. My tastes are quite catholic, and I tend to go back to the same places. But I am particularly fond of Hainanese chicken rice, and have scoured the world for a good one. (Shop 311, 3/F World Trade Centre, 280 Gloucester Road, Causeway Bay, tel: 2111 3166) is a favourite.
I like Malaysian food, and I can often be found at (98-102 Jaffe Road, Wan Chai, tel: 2143 6626), taking it all in with some of the best chicken satay and roti in town. I am also a fan of Indian curry, and I'm a regular at (1/F 20-30 Tai Wong Street East, Wan Chai, tel: 2527 5899). They have a fantastic chicken vindaloo which everyone should experience at least once in their lives, and their roasted cauliflower is one of the best.
For a great mulligatawny soup, I sometimes head to (basement, South China Building, 1-3 Wyndham Street, Central, tel: 2526 5293).
Around film festival time, I like to lunch at (3/F Renaissance Harbour View Hotel, 1 Harbour Road, Wan Chai, tel: 2584 6971), (lobby, Grand Hyatt, 1 Harbour Road, tel: 2584 7722) or sometimes (1/F, HKCEC, 1 Harbour Road, tel: 2582 7332). The main venue for our big films is the Cultural Centre in Tsim Sha Tsui. For a quick lunch, I cross the road to the at the YMCA (4F, 41 Salisbury Road, tel: 2268 7818) for the set lunch or fried rice. For Indian food, (1/F 23-25 Ashley Road, tel: 2376 1001) does a good lunch buffet. For dinner, I might go to (Windsor Mansion, 29-31 Chatham Road, tel: 2366 2494) where they do coal-fired lamb hotpot.
After a late-night screening, I head to (66 Wellington Street, Central, tel: 3125 3000). I like Chinese-style Western food, and (1/F, 1-11 Mallory Street, Wan Chai, tel: 2116 1910) fits the bill. During the festival, we often gather at (B/F, 67 Hollywood Road, Central, tel: 2858 7071) at the end of a long day. It's still one of the best bars in town.
