Trend spotter: flowers replace beards in this season's menswear collections

There are rumours that we may have reached "peak beard" and that men are forgoing the hirsute aesthetic for something a touch more delicate.

There are rumours that we may have reached "peak beard" and that men are forgoing the hirsute aesthetic for something a touch more delicate. This season flowers popped up in a number of menswear collections: some, like Saint Laurent and Raf Simons, went with subtle prints but others like Dries van Noten, Gucci and Prada went all out with embroidered flower patterns on jackets and pants.

No, we're not suggesting that you go all Morrissey and start swinging the gladioli, although this may be a chance to get in touch with your feminine side. 3:1 Philip Lim gets the balance right (right) with floral and geometric print tees matched with colourful pants and white sandals.

A floral print shirt is a must, and Paul Smith should be the first place you go to as they've been on this modish essential since the '60s. Colourful shoes and accessories pair well with this look. Flowers at the beach are also completely acceptable and H&M, Zara and others are having fun with tiki flavoured flowery swimwear and hats for men.
