Bar Review: Missy Ho's in Kennedy Town

the latest venture by Castelo Concepts — the people behind Jaspa's, Oolaa and Wagyu — is a detour from the safe, well-trodden path. Everything about this place is hip, from the innovative cocktail and food menus, to the wood-heavy decor that's dominated by a picture of Missy Ho on the far wall. The only issue you might have is finding it (if a staff member from the adjoining K-Town Bar & Grill hadn't shown us through the door we would have walked past it). The place is narrow — dining tables on the left and bar stools lining the right, so not an ideal venue for big groups. But if it's fun you're looking for, then Ari the friendly bar manager says it gets pretty crazy on Fridays and Saturdays, especially when the ceiling swings come down. There's a cupboard full of fancy-dress clothes and the tables are designed for dancing.

the "funky fusion flavours" food description has spilled over to the cocktail menu which offers tough choices. Lychee fans need look no further than the sweet and refreshing White Lady (HK$90), made with house-infused lychee vodka, lychee liqueur and a lychee purée that is made in-house. Don't be shy about eating the tiny chrysanthemum floating in the mix.

My friend's Chilli Chow (HK$90) packed with ice and mint looked cool and refreshing but had a big chilli-vodka kick which lingered for just the right amount of time. It was too early to order from the creative shots menu (all HK$80) but some of the names — Jam Doughnut, Chinese Pancake — sounded interesting. It was also too early for the impressive food menu. There's a limited selection of white and red wines.

a lively little place with fun cocktails that has upped K-Town's cool factor. We don't know who Missy Ho is, but we sure do like her style.
