A large-scale cross-media exhibition will be held at Hysan Place in Causeway Bay from January 9 to 16 to celebrate the 130th anniversary of the Hong Kong Jockey Club (HKJC).

A highlight will be a sculpture by Simon Ma. Made from fibre-reinforced plastic in the gold and blue corporate colours of the club, the 2.4-metre-high by 3.5-metre-long horse sculpture, which weighs 500kg, will be on show in Hysan Place.

"The sculpture adopts a design inspired by the Confucian spirit of , expressing the idea of mutual benevolence," a club spokeswoman says. "This exhibit was specially created by the artist to communicate the universal ideals of morality, kindness and community through artistic articulation."

She adds that given the artist's background — Ma was born and raised in Hong Kong, educated in Britain and is now based in Shanghai — "he brings an international perspective to the event".

The show will also feature four electronic "club ambassadors" on giant LED screens that will transmit people's stories about life in Hong Kong in an interactive zone. The ambassadors will greet visitors and introduce short videos recounting the stories of citizens, stories such as a profile on the youngest member of the Hong Kong Chinese Orchestra. These stories showcase how the club has been giving back to society by supporting local people in their artistic endeavours.

A multimedia interactive game called , programmed with augmented reality technology, allows the visitors to learn more about the club's charitable and community projects across the city.

"Everything on display reflects the core values of being respectful — about giving and sharing," says the spokeswoman.

"The Jockey Club is Hong Kong's largest community benefactor, and we wanted to highlight just how connected we are to the city and its people. We want to show people how the HKJC has positively impacted the lives of the people of Hong Kong."
