And the spirit of the times has returned with psychedelic swirls, chiffon blouses and eccentric embroidery on the spring runways, and sequins and clashing stripes now in stores everywhere.

Miu Miu's resort collection worships the period, touting pleated mini-dresses, ruffled hems and loud prints, like our model's pink and orange high-necked dress (HK$42,900) and symmetrical knit (HK$12,750).

US denim label J Brand, pioneer of dark-washed skinny jeans, is rocking retro with high-rise flares that once might have screamed mum glam, but are now totally chic. House of Holland is offering stonewash jackets with garish, floral embroidery and striped pullovers in acid yellow and teal.

At Alice + Olivia, slouchy, sequin numbers hug the figure and plunge at the neckline. Baby dolls in metallic black and berry stripes guarantee party domination.

Meanwhile, Chloe has returned with patchwork suede in its spring-summer 2015 collection, along with billowing chemises and flowing organza gowns. Urban Outfitters has embraced leather fringing again, although we can't remember a time when it hasn't been a feature, dangling off the arms of white leather jackets and hobo bags.

As for shoes, if we were to choose a single style to characterise the '70s, it would have to be wedges. Stuart Weitzman has fashioned them out of cork this season, with the rest of the sandal made from denim or dulled glitter for ease of pairing. You'll also find them at Tory Burch, in conservative, espadrille designs in black, and featuring openwork embroidery.
