Proving their worth in more ways then one, prized substances, such as platinum, caviar and gold, are making their mark in the skincare industry. Beyond their reputation for rarity and value, these precious ingredients bring qualities to skincare products that not only enhance their reputation for luxury, but also offer very real benefits.

For the past 25 years, La Prairie has harnessed the benefits of caviar, developing cutting-edge technology to deliver the benefits of this ingredient into the skin. Derived from ecologically sound, aqua-farmed Baerii sturgeon, the ingredients in the brand's Skin Caviar Liquid Lift act to smooth, firm and energise the skin.

Another French brand harnessing the benefits of one of the ocean's most valued products, Algotherm's Precious Pearls with Caviar, combine the ultranourishing qualities of this ingredient with sea buckthorn seed oil, which protects the skin against free radicals. The farmed caviar from France has a regenerating and remineralising effect on the skin.

Beyond its reputation for the Midas Touch, gold has proven benefits to the skin. In Spanish brand Ivo Pitanguy's Specifics Ultimate Repair Cream, the proprietary Gold Repair Complex combines pure gold and bio-peptides to penetrate deep into the skin and repair damaged tissues while stimulating collagen production. The cream works in conjunction with its Specifics Eye Cream, which targets emotional, biological and physical stress to reduce puffiness, dark circles and dryness.
