Bad hair day? It may not be your hair to blame. The latest buzz in hair care goes straight to the root, with scalp treatments and products promising to remove product residue, promote hair growth and tackle issues such as dandruff, sensitivity and hair loss.

"The health and beauty of hair starts with a balanced and healthy scalp," says Christophe Robin, who offers a Cleansing Purifying Scrub with Sea Salt designed to rehydrate and soothe itchy scalps.

Among the new salons specialising in scalp care are Phyto, which recently launched its first global flagship boutique at Diamond Hill's Hollywood Plaza, and 1st Ave Hair Treatment Centre in Central, which uses Rene Furterer products in its personalised hair and scalp treatments. Both also sell a wide range of plant-based scalp oils, masks and scrubs.
