Mediterranean magic: Lupa by Mario Batali in Central

Tracey Furniss

Italian.

Contemporary design with large windows overlooking Queen's Road, and the terrace bar is ideal for cocktails and snacks.

HK$2,000 for two with a glass of wine each.

A date or business associates.

The starters of Affettati Misti with a selection of meats including Parma ham heart, roasted pork belly, salami, wild boar sausage and mortadella, and the black truffle and potato croquettes with fresh cheese cream and chives are both good for sharing. For mains, we went for the seared sea scallops with piquillo peppers stuffed with whipped codfish and raspberry vinaigrette and blackberries - the scallops were cooked to perfection. The crabmeat and peppers were also perfectly done - the textures of soft and crunchy and the balance of sweet, salty and sour flavours made this my favourite dish. The ravioli with spinach and ricotta cheese, tomato sauce and basil is a great choice. For dessert, we loved the dark chocolate molten cake with caramel ice cream. The pistachio parfait with chocolate sauce and almond cookies is also a winner.

Although the restaurant was not busy, we waited some time to be served, and efforts to attract the attention of the wait staff went unnoticed.

A good selection of Italian and other international wines and cocktails.
