Expanded horizons: Fook Lam Moon at the Galaxy Macau

One of Hong Kong's most prestigious Cantonese restaurants, Fook Lam Moon, has opened an outlet at the Galaxy Macau. The restaurant is known for using quality ingredients and keeping its dishes authentic to Cantonese tradition and, as a result, has won numerous awards, including a Michelin star for its Hong Kong restaurant, which has also ranked in for three consecutive years.

Fook Lam Moon has also been recognised for its quality wine list. So after its six-decade history in Hong Kong, the restaurant has branched into Macau.

The 160-seater Macau restaurant spans 10,000 sq ft and combines modern elegance with traditional Chinese themes in its décor. The main dining area is decked in beige and gold tones, illuminated by Italian chandeliers.

Cantonese dim sum

There are nine private rooms, seating from four to 10 people, and the VIP room is adorned with elegant hand-painted wall paper.

The menu keeps its favourite Hong Kong signatures such as crispy chicken, braised Japanese dried abalone and has a good selection of fresh seafood.

We enjoyed authentic Cantonese dim sum. Freshly made har gau, siu mai and ha cheung fun were excellent as was their signature char siu. The fried lo bak gou was cut into small cubes and presented on a large plate and was enough for two or three people. It was crispy without being oily. We also tried their signature baked stuffed crab shell with onions and fresh crab meat which has been a favourite dish for regular diners for many years. Although we were too full for dessert, they do have Cantonese favourites such as steamed buns with sesame paste and salty egg yolk and steamed leaf wrapped glutinous dumpling with red bean paste.
