Something new: claim to frame

Not many things get the creative juices flowing as much as a blank canvas does. The quirky cameras produced by the Lomographic Society may come close, however - and imagine the possibilities should the two be combined!
The latest exhibition by the local branch of the global society puts the focus on the camera itself, in this case the La Sardina wide-angle snapper. The new DIY edition of the La Sardina is housed in a plain white body, allowing owners to personalise their toys in whatever way they like.
To demonstrate what can be done, cameras were handed to 11 local artists and design teams including DJ Maria Tang, Graphic Airlines, Stella So Man-yee, Mandy Cat, Daydream Nation, John Ho Tat-hung, Eva Cheung, Cowrice, UUendy Lau and Stickyline.
Paper-craft duo Stickyline adorned theirs with a paper fish. Design student and singer Cheung, known for her bright pink hair, brought her funky style to the project with the help of some furry pink materials.
The artists' creations will be on display at the Lomography Gallery stores in Sheung Wan (2 Po Yan Street, tel: 2915 2205) and Tsim Sha Tsui (52 Granville Road, tel: 2368 3230) from Friday until September 21. Organisers are holding a launch party on Friday at 8pm in the Sheung Wan store. The artists will be on hand to discuss their work as well as take part in an art jam involving a giant paper La Sardina camera created by Stickyline.
