Behind the label: Chrishabana
Victoria Kung
Jewellery designer Chris Habana grew up amid New York's counter-culture of the 1990s and his pieces are shot through with that edginess. It's a look that has caught the eye of stores such as Oak, Urban Outfitters and Lane Crawford. Habana, who launched his eponymous label in 2004, has earned a celebrity following that includes the likes of Drew Barrymore and Bjork. His work has been featured in magazines such as Italian Vogue and i-D. Last year, he launched a diffusion line called My Enemy.
the pieces are unisex and use gothic iconography, such as bones, cages and crosses, with a pop twist. Cast in brass with different plate finishes, his work manages to be both playful and controversial. Inspired by sci-fi and fantasy, the jewellery is bold but never too serious.
