The Dictator

On style, she rules

Just saw someone with this chakra jewellery, but no luck finding it. Any idea where they might be?

Seventh Heaven, Mid-Levels

The Dictator rules: And we thought spiritual pursuits were about relinquishing the material world … For those who care, chakras are the seven energy centres of the body in Hinduism and Buddhism. Each is associated with a part of the body and specific characteristics, but it’s the assigned colours that make the concept a merchandiser’s dream. The Daisy Chakra bracelets (from HK$730 to HK$1,080), silver or gold-plated silver symbols on coloured silk cords, have been seen on celebs from Kanye West to Jude Law and Sienna Miller to Katy Perry. Get yours at www.daisyjewellery.com. But wait, there’s more. Singaporebased Chakra Ma delivers to Hong Kong and makes gorgeous single or multiple chakra jewellery items in gold-plated silver with semiprecious stones (HK$500 and up; www.chakrama.com). Even this hardened sceptic is drawn to the Channel of Chakras necklace (HK$1,550) in garnet, carnelian, yellow citrine, peridot, iolite, amethyst and rainbow moonstone. New York brand Me & Ro has a line of silver or 10-carat gold Flower Chakra pendants (HK$1,160 and up; www.meandrojewelry.com). Satya is another New York brand inspired by Eastern traditions. You might like its threependant necklaces, for example, which feature symbols and crystals, and go by names such as Clear Skies and For Good (HK$760; www.satyajewelry.com). The possibilities, as a search on www.etsy.com will prove, are endless.

I can’t stand all these “it” bags that are so faddish and branded. I don’t need a bag with logos and big metal bits showing off how much I spent on it. Apart from Céline or Chloé, who does understated bags any more?
Plain Jane, Pok Fu Lam

The Dictator: Grumble all you like. When you’re ready to stop whining, take a look around. You’ll notice a shift in accessories away from everything you described and back to plain, unadorned styles. Coach has launched the vintageinspired Legacy collection harking back to its timeless classics with interesting updates (HK$3,700 and up; Times Square, Causeway Bay, tel: 2808 1530). J.Crew’s ultra-plain and ultra-pretty Copley saddlebag (HK$2,800 to HK$3,250; www.jcrew.com), in neon persimmon or toffee beige leather, is sure to appeal. Also, don’t forget to have a look at the latest creations by some of the hottest fashion labels around. For instance, Alexander Wang’s Devere bag (HK$4,500; www.alexanderwang.com), Opening Ceremony’s new bag collection (HK$5,200 and up; www.openingceremony.us), Proenza Schouler’s PS1 satchel (HK$10,900 and up; www.proenzaschouler.com) and The Cambridge Satchel Company’s pieces (HK$1,450 and up; www.cambridgesatchel.co.uk), all available at LAB Concept (Queensway Plaza, Admiralty, tel: 2118 6008).
