New on the block: Alexander Mcqueen

Bow to McQueen It’s a long time coming, but some fashion houses are just worth the wait. Drum roll please …

Alexander McQueen has finally opened a Hong Kong store, at Elements mall. Of course, the label needs little introduction, and many fashionistas will no doubt be making the pilgrimage to Kowloon. The shop alone is worth the trip: it has a gorgeous design inspired by everyone from artists Francis Bacon and H.R. Giger to architect Antonio Gaudi.

The 152 square metre space is the third new concept store (after ones in Miami and Shanghai) developed by Alexander McQueen creative director Sarah Burton and architecture firm David Collins Studio. Skulls, gargoyles and other twisted McQueen motifs are weaved into the opulent wallcovering and furnishings.

“It’s very McQueen to see something from a distance and think it’s one thing, and then to look up close and discover [it’s] something else. It’s important to us that everything in the stores feels very precious,” says Burton.

Alexander McQueen is at Shop 1032B, First Level, Elements, Austin Road West, Tsim Sha Tsui, tel: 2649 3098.
