Mr Dapper: My taste is less outré than Dandy’s, so I’d keep it simple and about fabric content. Look for cotton jumpers, such as the crewnecks and V-necks by Brooks Brothers (HK$590 to HK$690; IFC Mall, Central, tel: 2234 7088) and COS (HK$490 to HK$590; 74 Queen’s Road Central, tel: 3580 7938). Fine merino or virgin wool is excellent for in-between seasons and easily sourced at the likes of Zara (HK$399; IFC Mall, tel: 2234 7305), Zadig & Voltaire (HK$2,300; Pacific Place, Admiralty, tel: 2918 9522) and McQ (HK$2,890; Lane Crawford, IFC Mall, tel: 2118 7777). In air-conditioned offices, light cashmere and cashmere blends can be just as comfortable, including those by Zegna Sport (HK$5,100; Alexandra House, Central, tel: 2868 9638), Tommy Hilfiger (HK$730 and up; The Landmark, Central, tel: 2525 8848) and Jet 8 (HK$2,980 to HK$3,180; The Landmark, tel: 2810 4233).
Mr Dandy: Dude, the springsummer collections are gone and we’re into autumn-winter – that’s why. Yeah, sometimes, though, you just need to check the fabric content label (usually inside left). T by Alexander Wang has an awesome sheer striped wool acrylic jumper (HK$2,500; Joyce, Harbour City, Tsim Sha Tsui, tel: 2367 8128) and Topman has tons of Nordicpattern knits in cottons or light synthetics (HK$450 and up; Harvey Nichols, The Landmark, tel: 3695 3388). But you’re missing a great opportunity here; blazers give just as much warmth but look sharper.
I care about smelling good, but not leaving a trail of cheap cologne. I’ve been hearing the name Killian (?) around, especially something with “incense” in the name. Do you know where I could go sample it in Hong Kong?
Mr Dandy: Ooh, I just love niche fragrances! We like details, Dapper, such as knowing that Incense Oud was created by Sidonie Lancesseur. Its composition includes more incense than oud (aka agarwood, a dark, aromatic resinous wood), plus patchouli, sandalwood, cedar, oakmoss, geranium, cardamom, Turkish rose and musk. Who cares? Well, knowing that helps you look for similar scents via sites such as fragrantica.com and luckyscent.com.
