Brussels sprouting Trendy menswear label Les Hommes is yet more evidence, as if it were needed, that Belgium - yes, tiny Belgium - is a fashion superpower. Hard to fathom, but easy to understand why when you see great items such as this patterned jumper (above left; HK$5,495), which comes with an interesting collar design, and leather jacket (above right; HK$16,995), with its vivid block colours and shearling. Les Hommes is available at The Swank Mens, The Landmark, Central, tel: 2810 0769.

Hip hip It almost happened by stealth, but these days Portland, in the American state of Oregon is the hipster capital of the world. As well as fixie bikes, tattoos and PBR beer, Portland folk love their Americana-inspired leather goods - especially those from local champions Wood & Faulk. We must admit we have a weakness for the leather ring belts (far right; HK$890) and the riveted key rings (right; HK$490). Wood and Faulk is available at The Men's Shop by Club Monaco, 1 St Francis Yard, Wan Chai, tel: 2527 7030.

Inside information From the look of the autumn-winter collection, the designers at Paul & Joe have been brushing up on their F. Scott Fitzgerald. With echoes of The Great Gatsby, we love the relaxed look of the cardigan (HK$5,340), shirt (HK$2,310), tie (HK$960) and trousers (all above right; HK$2,775). We're also big fans of an ensemble that has more than a whiff of the interwar spy about it: hat (HK$1,500), trench coat (HK$9,300), shirt (HK$2,310) and trousers (all above left; HK$3,460). Paul & Joe is available at Langham Place, Mong Kok, tel: 3514 9238.

Sole searching French fashion house Carven has had a few years in the wilderness but is back with a bang. You can't go wrong with the solid and sturdy two-tone leather boots (left; HK$4,090) or the black leather shoes with vibram sole (below; HK$4,090). Carven is available at Ocean Centre, Tsim Sha Tsui, tel: 2735 9172.
