Who's behind it? MaiProject was established by French designer Arthur Schildge in 2008 on a trip to Chiang Mai, Thailand. Schildge saw the potential for a fashion-forward shoe brand with a conscience. MaiProject funds development projects directly with money raised from shoe sales, with €2 (HK$20) from every sale donated to a partner charity working in some of the poorest parts of the world.
Why we love it: a shoe brand with heart and soul, made in Europe by workers earning a fair wage; what could be better? With the fashion industry constantly criticised for its labour or environmental policies it's always good to cheer the good guys making a difference. It helps that the shoes look pretty snazzy, too.
What we'd pick: Grab the attention you crave with the fiery slip-on shoe (below left; HK$1,054) from the M2 range, which comes in volcano red suede. For those who want something a little more restrained, we recommend the hi-top M4 shoe (below right; HK$1,263) in sand canvas.
