Off-beat McQ by Alexander McQueen is not for everybody, but you can't ignore it. We recommend the in-your-face orange leather iPhone holder (above left; HK$1,250) and the menacing black canvas and leather trim holdall (above right; HK$6,250). McQ is available at Harvey Nichols, The Landmark, Central, tel: 3695 3389.

Lager Lager Lagerfeld You can't keep a good man down, and so it is with the ever-controversial Karl Lagerfeld. Thankfully, the designer has found time to work his magic on these very accessibly priced Karl by Karl Lagerfeld sunglasses. Keep the winter sun out of your eyes with his funky blue frames (above left; HK$980) or if you're looking for something a little more sophisticated, there's the chunky aviators (above right; HK$1,795). Karl by Karl Lagerfeld is available at The Hong Kong Optic, 1/F, Miramar Shopping Centre, 132 Nathan Road, Tsim Sha Tsui, tel: 2621 3038.

Ready, steady, drink Many of you out there will have already either given up or not even started your New Year get-fit drive. Fret not: looking the part is half the battle, if only to fool your better halves. With that in mind, consider a pair of Adidas Originals running shoes (left; both HK$599), the bonus being that they also look pretty hip down the pub. Adidas is at 6 Kingston Street, Causeway Bay, tel: 2504 2186.

Watch this space It’s all change at Balenciaga, with long-time creative director Nicolas Ghesquiere off to pastures new and to be replaced by Alexander Wang. Ghesquiere has never been one to dwell on sentimentality and his final winter collection looks to the future with space-age fabrics and other-worldly constructions. We love the space pimp look of blouson (HK$22,600), jumper (HK$7,400), trousers (HK$7,100) and boots (all right; HK$11,300). Meanwhile, the ensemble of coat (HK$13,600), T-shirt (HK$5,100), trousers (HK$7,100) and boots (all far right; HK$7,300) wouldn’t look out of place in the upcoming Star Trek film. Balenciaga is in The Landmark, Central, tel: 3428 8086.
