Metallic tastes Bright metallic shoes are big on the catwalk but can be hit or miss on the street. We've spotted some great pairs at Jimmy Choo, though, such as an Anouk turquoise metallic watersnake pair (above right; HK$9,450). The gold and black suede Lola shoe (above left; HK$8,790) reminds us of the glamorous art-deco era. Jimmy Choo is in The Landmark, Central, tel: 2525 6068.

Make your Marc The resort collection by Marc Jacobs is a whirlwind of bright colours, shiny metallics and vibrant prints, making for a slightly disconcerting yet welcome jolt to the system. The striped T-shirts (here in orange/green and maroon/blue) will set you back HK$7,990 each, and are paired with the bright tartan patterned shorts (also HK$7,990 each; all above right). For dressy occasions, we adore the clashing colours on these floral sequinned dresses with vintage bow details (above left; HK$25,900). Marc Jacobs is in The Landmark, tel: 2868 9782.

Dangling a Carat Hong Kong-based British jewellery label Carat specialises in high-octane, colourful jewellery with precious and semi-precious stones, offering red-carpet looks at friendlier prices. We like the rock 'n' roll-inspired cocktail rings in the "Rocktail" collection. The Sabbath (above right; HK$1,230) features a deep green round-cut semi-precious stone and the glam rock Bowie (above left; HK$1,510) has a citrine-coloured, square-cut gem. Carat is in IFC Mall, Central, tel: 2234 7372.

Jean expression Denims by 7 for All Mankind are always a good fit, and for spring-summer, brushed metallics and studs are huge in the collection. We prefer to keep it simple, though, with the dark blue turn-up jeans (above right; HK$2,680), a perfect everyday pair. The bright coral pair (above left; HK$2,080), distressed at the knee, makes quite the statement. 7 for All Mankind is in IFC Mall, tel: 2722 9666.
