Why you can trust SCMP
Pavan Shamdasani

Ruco Line was founded in 1987 by Marco Santucci and his wife, Daniela Penchini, in the small town of Mugnano, just outside Perugia, Italy. After initially importing ethnic tricot shoes for big-city luxury shops, the pair began forging their own reputation when Penchini utilised her architecture and design background to come up with a feminine range of trainers.

Ruco Line strikes a fun balance between its country's classic fashion heritage and the durability of contemporary casual shoes, offering comfort that doesn't skimp on style. But it isn't all sneaker-wear here - the collections range from sandals and sabots through to pumps and knee-high boots.

the Ariel Magic Colour Fantasy (below left; HK$3,380) is a trainer heavily inspired by the over-the-top 1980s, its clean white frame clashing pleasingly with the turquoise and neon-yellow details. The Thelma Soft Ranch in Nero (below right; HK$2,980) is a peep-toe shoe that uses dark leather and suede for that perfect formal-casual balance. Finally, add a little heel to those kicks with the Oscar Suede in Turchese (above; HK$4,780), a bright ankle boot that provides comfort and warmth in an often tricky type of shoe.

Ruco Line is available at Gateway Arcade, Harbour City, Tsim Sha Tsui, tel: 3188 0384, or at www.rucoline.com.
