Making bright work Bright bold colours are the signature of Finnish design company Marimekko. Reference the swinging sixties with necklaces such as the Tango (above right; HK$1,295) and the Valssi (above centre; HK$1,095). The Rytmi bangle (above left; HK$450) provides a bit of arm candy. Marimekko is at 42 Leighton Road, Causeway Bay, tel: 2203 4218.

Snake charmers Because of the Chinese zodiac, snakeskin is a popular material on accessories this year. If you want a hint of exotic-skin glamour without going overboard, we would opt for the short-heeled strappy sandals (above left; HK$2,580) by German footwear label Lloyd. There is also the comfy tan leather T-bar wedge heel (above right; also HK$2,580) that would make for a great everyday summer shoe. Lloyd is at Sogo, 555 Hennessy Road, Causeway Bay, tel: 2831 8969.

Chequered past Louis Vuitton’s collection is all about straight column lines in long and short dresses with bold ubiquitous checks, in monochrome, yellow and olive. This springsummer season, designer Marc Jacobs has thankfully brought us some bubble-gum positivity by referencing Daniel Buren’s crisp and precise artwork. We love the sunshine yellow and white chequered ensembles that opened his show in Paris: the double gabardine large Damier jacket (HK$23,600) worn with matching long skirt (both above left; HK$10,000), and the super summery large Damier dress (above right; HK23,000). Louis Vuitton is at The Landmark, Central, tel: 2523 2915.

Into the fold Foldable shades are not only trendy but also rather practical. We like the look of the Sunpocket ones, here in black Samoa and crystal green Samoa (both HK$780). They are available from
