The Dictator: on style, she rules
I'm loving the new metallic skirts; I just need to find the right one! Any advice for a thirty-something career girl?
Metal Skirting, Sai Ying Pun
The Dictator rules: First off, stop calling yourself a girl. By now, you've earned the title of Woman. Second, these skirts should be worn only by those with toned legs and bums (or Spanx). Third, I suggest you play down/off the shine and glitz with an understated, well-made classic, such as a perfectly tailored white shirt. Joseph has an incredible stretch-leather pencil skirt in gunmetal grey (HK$7,500; Lee Gardens Two, Causeway Bay, tel: 2808 1040); L'Agence has an amazing coppery-gold-leather version (HK$4,990; Harvey Nichols, The Landmark, Central, tel: 3695 3388); and Shopbop. com is offering free international express delivery on a number of great options, including the mirrored python skirt by Milly (HK$3,988) and a silver neoprene mini by Sass & Bide (HK$1,390). The latest collection by Gat Rimon (Rue Madame, IFC Mall, Central, tel: 2234 7880) has several metallic pieces, including a silver skirt (HK$1,250) and a black neoprene mini finished with a wide band of silver at the hem (HK$1,890). Also, check out the fab pleated silver skirt from Korean label Push Button (HK$3,490; Harvey Nichols). Then there's metallic brocade, which seems abundant this spring, including at Marni (HK$6,900 and up; The Landmark, tel: 2845 7632) and Maje (HK$1,990; IFC Mall, tel: 2234 7396). For something more demure, why not try a sparkle tweed mixed with metallic threads for a Coco-Chanel-on-her-way-to-a-disco look?
I've heard wonderful things about a new skin-cream brand called Dr Jart and really did my due diligence by visiting the major department stores, but I can't find it! Is there anywhere I can go to test the products so I don't have to buy blind on the web?
Dr in The House? The Peak
The Dictator: What were you thinking? It's not that department stores can only stock so many "doctor" brands, or that I hadn't even heard of this one. It's that your search should always start online, regardless of preferred purchasing method. Duh. According to www.google.com and www.dr-jart.com.hk, Dr.Jart+ was founded by a group of dermatologists in Korea. You'll find all the usual buzz words associated with these cosmeceuticals, such as "cutting-edge technology", "extensive research and development" and the promise of "visible results", along with the interesting note: "The products in Hong Kong sold by Dr.Jart+ are specially selected to suit the weather in Hong Kong." Reassuringly, the reputable sephora.com describes it as one of Asia's top skincare lines. Sasa (various locations; www.sasa.com.hk is one store of many that sells the brand. Star products include beauty balms such as the Black Label Detox BB Beauty Balm, Premium Beauty Balm and Water Fuse Smart Gel Beauty Balm (HK$265 to HK$400) targeting specific problems such as blemishes, ageing and congestion.
