Hat tricks The wide-brimmed hat has been in vogue since that whole bohemian 1970s trend came back in. We like these colourful options from Maison Michel (above; HK$4,600 each) with metallic detailing on the brim. They are available at On Pedder, 16 Queen's Road Central, tel: 2118 3489.

Precious cargo Family-owned Hermès enjoys a stellar reputation afforded to few in the luxury goods industry. The French brand's craftsmanship and small production volumes mean its coveted bags are, even at these sky-high prices, often out of stock. The calfskin mini Berline (above; HK$49,300) showcases Hermès' sandal-making roots with padded leather sections. The brand's print silk scarves are perhaps just as famous and this season we are lusting after the Tous les Bateaux du Monde scarf (below right; HK$3,800) and the Brides Fleuries Precious scarf in washed-out silk twill (below left; HK$29,700). Hermès is in The Galleria, 9 Queen's Road Central, tel: 2525 5900.

Onward Christian King of the red sole Christian Louboutin isn't the shy and retiring type, as you might gather from his designs. The man who put heels on men's shoes has come up with some outrageous offerings for women, including the colourful Daffodile Loubi print shoe (above right; HK$8,800) and the watersnake peep-toe sandal (above left; HK$10,500). Christian Louboutin is at 7 On Lan Street, Central, tel: 2118 0016.

Ruffling feathers Nicolas Ghesquiere was a genius at creating a fashion zeitgeist at Balenciaga, but now it's the young Alexander Wang's turn to take the baton at the storied French fashion house. Get your bit of fashion history then, with a purchase from Ghesquiere's last spring-summer collection for the label. Dynamic structured shapes are paired with monochromatic architectural ruffles. The masculine grey jacket (HK$22,900) and trousers (HK$10,300) with a sexy V-neck bustier (all above left; HK$45,300) make for a super-chic outfit. The stunning ruffled black dress (above centre) is timeless but doesn't come cheap at HK$76,300. Our favourite outfit is the boxy top (HK$8,600) and edgy, flamenco-inspired skirt (above right; HK$85,500). Balenciaga is in The Landmark, Central, tel: 3428 8086.
