Behind the label: Flat Apartment

Pavan Shamdasani

Who started it? Having launched their first collection, Flatten, for spring-summer 2010, Korean duo Kyunghee Seo and Kwangsub Yie gained international prominence as Flat Apartment when fashion chain Opening Ceremony collaborated with the brand on a global project last year.

Why we love it: the label bills itself as an accessories brand, but it's the shoes that really stand out. Clean and minimalist, the focus here is on style and comfort. "Flatforms" - a mix of flat and platform styles - are among the most popular items, and the latest collection focuses on hybrids of pointed and round-toe shoes.

What we'd recommend: the brand's spring-summer 2013 collection incorporates elements of optical illusion. We particularly like the strap wedge sandals (below right; HK$4,250), which use multiple bands in an uncluttered way, and the beige pumps (below centre; HK$3,780) in an attractive, slightly flawed leather. At the other end of the spectrum, the white wedge pumps (below left; HK$3,780) are clean, clog-like and best of all, comfortable.

Where can you get it? Flat Apartment is available at Bauhaus, 8 Granville Road, Tsim Sha Tsui, tel: 2369 7890.
