Hip to be square Pocket squares are everywhere these days and many johnny-jump-on-the-bandwagon brands are having a go. We suggest a visit to a specialist gentleman outfitter such as Thomas Pink for your pocket needs: tradition and expertise count for something, after all. We love the double-face silk pocket square (above left; HK$700), which has a red and blue paisley pattern on one side and houndstooth on the other. We're also big fans of the more hip painter style silk version (above right; HK$700), which will definitely add a dash, or indeed globs, of colour to your suit. Thomas Pink is in Pacific Place, Admiralty, tel: 2155 9021.

Suit up Instagram followers of style icons such as Scott Schuman and Nick Wooster will know that classic tailoring and accessories are big at the moment. Waistcoats, ties and the odd dash of inter-war tailoring are the way to go, as can be seen in this Ralph Lauren Purple look of navy stripe jacket (HK$45,500), cream waistcoat (HK$4,500) blue dress shirt (HK$4,100) and black silk tie (all above left; HK$1,290). Something a little more formal but no less on trend is this look of cream shawl jacket (HK$40,500), black trousers (HK$8,100), white dress shirt (HK$4,100) and black bow-tie (all above right; HK$1,190). Ralph Lauren is in The Landmark, Central, tel: 2869 0388.

Baring good news Barcelona brand Desigual is so confident you'll dig its threads, it has run "Come in undressed, leave dressed" promotions in some of its stores - the first 100 customers to turn up as naked as the law allows received two free items. Sadly, it hasn't tried that stunt in Hong Kong yet, but you can certainly see what all the fuss is about with these colourful, perfect-for-summer tops. We like the stripy shirt (above left; HK$1,180) and the navy T-shirt with faux braces (above right; HK$880). Desigual is available at Bauhaus, 496 Lockhart Road, Causeway Bay, tel: 2838 6228.

Off the handle Leather comes in all shapes, sizes and colours these days so it's difficult to be impressed by most new offerings. Not so those of Mulberry, which has again piqued our interest this season with the chocolate-coloured and hand-rolled-leather Heathcliffe briefcase (above left; HK$13,800). We're also nodding approvingly at the black crocodile-leather trimmed Ted vintage-look messenger bag (above right; HK$13,500). Mulberry is in Elements Mall, 1 Austin Road West, Kowloon, tel: 2196 8280.
