The Dictator: on style, she rules

I saw this girl with a giant tiger face printed on her swimsuit. Or maybe it was a bodysuit, I don’t know; but I do know I want one like that for summer!

The Dictator rules: Well if you’re not sure what you saw, then how am I supposed to know? What I can confirm is wildcat motifs have been popular in the, shall we say, “youth” clothing market since 2010, the Year of the Tiger. The following years’ rabbit, dragon and now snake haven’t captured designers’ imaginations in quite the same way. You need to jump on the MTR and head straight to Bershka, young lady. The Spanish brand’s black strapless photo-print swimsuit (only HK$399; Olympian City, 18 Hoi Ting Road, West Kowloon, tel: 2305 0755), with shredded cutouts at the back, is sure to have you purring. If you’d done a Google search, one label would have come up again and again: We Are Handsome ( Well, guess what? You can get its eye-catching animal-motif swimwear, including one-piece tanks (HK$2,400) and string bikinis (HK$1,900), right here in Hong Kong (Lane Crawford, IFC Mall, Central, tel: 2118 3388). And, hey, if the tiger’s sold out, then go for the cheetah. Also from Australia, there’s the fierce tiger swimsuit by Black Milk (about HK$675; and the Bam Bam Eye of The Tiger bodysuit or swimsuit from SurfStitch (about HK$280; But wait – you are in your teens or 20s, right? Any older and this look tends to strike fear into the hearts of men. Then again, maybe that’s what you were going for.

I threw out my back brush years ago, but suddenly everyone’s praising them again. If I wanted to minimise the products I use, could I find one of these brushes easily?

The Dictator: Think about all the benefits you’re promised in the literature for the mountains of chemical body products out there. Chief among them are removal of dead skin cells and even toxins, improved circulation and new cell growth. Well, surprise! Those things are what experts claim the old natural bristle brush has always done. And they’re not all that hard to find. The best we’ve seen in Hong Kong include Iris Hantverk bath brushes from Sweden (HK$285 each; The Fabulous Towel Company, The Feel Good Factor, 2/F, Winsome House, 73 Wyndham Street, Central, tel: 2530 0610; And a long time ago in this column, we also recommended the hand-finished beechwood bath brush by Acca Kappa (HK$490; WTC More, Causeway Bay, tel: 2890 7168; and the Kent range (HK$250 and up; Fanda, World-Wide House, Central, tel: 2311 6168; Meanwhile, The Fabulous Towel Company sells Kese scrub mitts (HK$150), which are used in Turkish hamams, hand-woven from treebark fibre and available in 10 colours. Just add water!
